Information about the Peace Lily, which family it belongs to and how it is composed
The technical name is Spatifillum, the family it belongs to is the Araceae family, it is an evergreen plant from the American tropical areas, an indoor plant that brightens up any home with its glossy leaves and flowers bright white. It does not have stems unlike other plants, the leaves emerge from the rhizome, the roots are deep, the white part or the flower is a leaf that arises to wrap and protect the flowers.
When aged, the white color turns green, but remains pale. Growing the Peace Lily is not difficult, there are 60 species and all manage to survive over the years despite the little care of those who have a black thumb or who do not have much free time. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the location of the plant since it is practically allergic to wind and environments where there is a lot of smoke and little oxygen.
Taking care of the Peace Lily is very simple, here’s what to do, tips and secrets
It is therefore advisable to place the Peace Lily in a ventilated room where the air is often renewed, provided it is protected from any draft, even the slightest. During the hot months it can even live outdoors , but it must remain in the shade, also in this case protected from the wind and direct sunlight.
To plant it in the ground you need a mixture of peat and sand to which it is advisable to also add bark flakes. All this serves to make the soil acidic. Its ideal temperature ranges from 18 to 25 degrees. In this temperature range, it brings flowers to life from spring to fall.
It can survive even at 30 degrees, what matters is keeping the soil moist . However, the plant cannot tolerate cold, so it is best not to let the temperature drop below 15 degrees in the room where it is kept. During the summer months it requires abundant watering because the compost must be moist, but protected from water stagnation which is deadly. In winter, however, simply hydrate the plant by wetting the substrate or leaves.
How to keep the plant moist and what fertilizer to use to get great results making the plant everlasting
To keep it moist we recommend placing pebbles or clay balls between the vase and the saucer. But it doesn’t stop there, because the Peace Lily needs to be fertilized at least twice a month. It is recommended to do this with a mixture of potassium, iron, copper, zinc, phosphorus and molybdenum. The mixture in question can be purchased ready-made in nurseries or stores selling plants, or it can be prepared directly at home using ingredients that we all have.
Gather a little soil, the skin of the potatoes which is first dried then chopped in the blender, everything is turned well to mix thoroughly then poured onto the earth or used to moisten its leaves. Potato peel is particularly used because it contains potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus which are good for this plant and all others.
The solution is miraculous because it deeply nourishes the plants, ensuring them a life of several years. It is recommended to water the land once every 15 days, then twice a month.
