How to Recover an Orchid from a Single Leaf

The orchid is unique in that even if it appears dead, you can try to give it a second life.  If an orchid has rotten leaves and roots, but at least one leaf remains untouched by disease, you can grow a healthy new plant from it in a short space of time.

SHEET PREPARATION

Wash the healthy leaf well under running water. Remove excess moisture from the leaf with a soft cloth.

Turmeric will be needed to treat the leaf. This spice contains many nutrients that all plants need. Furthermore, turmeric contains substances with antibacterial and fungicidal properties, which is particularly important when it comes to restoring a diseased plant.

Cover 1 teaspoon of turmeric with 1 liter of boiling water and leave to cool completely. Strain the solution and treat a healthy leaf with it.

Place the orchid leaf in the jar. Pour the turmeric brine into the jar so that it slightly covers the stem. Leave the sheet in this state for 25 minutes. After this treatment, leave the leaf in a cool, dry place for 24 hours.

REGENERATION PROCESS

To further restore the leaf, it is necessary to make a construction from the lid of a plastic cup and cotton rolls.

The finished construction must be placed in a five-liter bottle with the neck cut off.

Place the orchid on cotton pads. Pour water into the container so that it slightly covers the cotton pads, but without touching the leaf itself. The orchid will get all the moisture it needs from the water coming out of the cotton pad.

Spray the leaf regularly and check the water level. After just 10 days, you will notice a positive trend and within a month, many strong, healthy roots will appear on the leaf: the orchid will be ready to be transplanted to a permanent location where it will continue to grow actively.
